Guidelines:

Please focus on rewarding authors who put real effot into their content - especially those who haven't been noticed yet. Apart from that:

  • no curation of low-effort posts, like single mobile photo with few words, automatically crated content etc.
  • no higher self-curation ratio than 10% is allowed (recent update)
  • max post age - 2 days
  • curators inactive for a longer than a week are removed from the list
Expect the guidelines to be expanded :)

Work In Progress!

All the information listed below is subject to change. This is an early version and it will require lots of fine tuning, so keep checking back for the latest info! :)

@tipU Curation Project

On the list above are the @tipu curators - selected users that can send @tipu upvotes for free on any content that they've decided deserves to be rewarded. They can also nominate other users to become @tipu curators. The aim is to efficiently curate good authors, which means being one of the first to reward valuable content. Because of this:

  • we increase the value of the Hive ecosystem by rewarding valuable content
  • part of the the curation rewards are being paid to curators as a payment for their hard work
The system also has gamification elements build in - things like levels and rewards :)

How To Curate

If you're on the list above, congratulations! To request a @tipu upvote on any post that you feel should be rewarded, all you need to do is comment @tipu curate. You can also write any comment you want first, then at the end, add @tipu curate. The higher your level, the more upvotes that are more valuable you can send. Each upvote costs curation mana and with the level increse, the upvote mana cost also increases - because it's more valuable. Here's the current brekdown:

  • lvl 0: 1 mana per vote (3 votes)
  • lvl 1: 1 mana per vote (4 votes)
  • lvl 2: 2 mana per vote (5 votes)
  • lvl 3: 3 mana per vote (6 votes)
  • lvl 4: 4 mana per vote (7 votes)
  • lvl 5: 4 mana per vote (9 votes)
  • lvl 6: 4 mana per vote (15 votes)
And so on. You can see, past lvl 4 the mana cost per vote does not increase but the curator can send a lot more of them. If you want to burn more mana per vote and by this send higher upvote - you can specify the upvote multiplier like this: tipu curate 3. This will use 3 times more mana than normal and give 3 times higher upvote. For example, for lvl 0 this will burn all curator's mana (3x1=3) and for lvl 4 - it will burn 12 (3x4) out of 16 mana.

Curation Tips

Try to be one of the first to curate good content, especially from authors that haven't been noticed yet. Freel free to browse newest post at https://hive.blog/created and find the gems :) You can also narrow your seach to an area that interests you the most, like https://hive.blog/created/gaming or https://hive.blog/created/photography.

Few tips:
  • you should focus on new posts
  • you want to curate posts that you anticipate will have high payouts (valuable posts!)
  • you don't want to curate posts that already have high payouts and the your curation vote will be one of the last ones
  • remember about the 5 minute penalty - it's best to curate around 5 minutes mark or a bit earlier if you think the post will get lots of votes from other users

Efficiency And Levels

Each curated post is checked to measure the curation reward - first 5 minutes after the vote, then after an hour, next after 4 hours, and so on for the 7 days until payout.

The standard curation reward should be about 50% of the vote value - that's because on STEEM the curators receive 50% of the post value. This equals to 100% efficiency in curating (standard reward).

If the curator manages to get curation reward higher than 50% of the vote value, he's efficiency is higher than 100% (more than standard reward) - if less, the efficiency is lower, below 100%. To calculate the curator's efficiency, we compare the standard curation rewards from all his curations with the actual rewards.

Additionaly, if the curator have less than 10 curations, his efficiency will change slower to avoid the situation, when first good curation places him on the top of the leaderboard. Once 10 curations are done, the efficiency is calculated normally.

Curation Mana

With each new level, the curator gets more control over their @tipu voting power. Basically each level gives more curation mana (which is a simplified version of the STEEM voting power). When you use the @tipu curate command, it drains power from the curation mana - when it reaches 0%, you need to wait for the mana reset (which happens every 24 hours).

If you're level 2 and above - you can send more than 1 curation upvotes per day. You can also increase the vote power - for example using command @tipu curate 3 will multiply your vote by 3 - so it drains 3 times more mana but this single vote will be 3 times stronger.

Nominations

To nominate other user, simply use command @tipu nominate under his post or comment. You can also send 0.001 STEEM to @tipU with memo: nominate X where is is the user's steem name (without @).

Be sure to check if you have nominations left to use and you need certain level to be able to obtain them.

Curators Rewards

Currently each curator that has efficiency higher than 100% receives daily payout that comes from curators reward pool. The higher the efficiency, the higher the payout, according to the formula:

curator payout = (efficiency / sum_of_all_curators_efficiency) * reward_pool

Currently reward pool is 10 STEEM but it will be increased to about 100 STEEM daily in upcoming weeks.

Efficiency Below 100%

If you're a just starting as a curator and receive lower efficiency - don't worry! Over time, the curated posts will receive more upvotes, which will increase the curation reward, as well as your efficiency. Be one of the first to curate good content, and your efficiency will jump up. Feel free to browse the newest posts to find the gems :)

Quick FAQ

Can I use @tipU to curate my own content?
Sure, if you think that you put a decent amount of work into your post, feel free to request @tipU upvote on it.

Can I upvote the post before curating it using @tipU?
Yes, this can be a source of additional reward to curators so this is perfectly acceptable.

How to maximize the curation reward?
Good question. Basically you want to be one of the first persons that request the @tipU upvote before the post gets upvotes by other users. This means that:
  • you should focus on new posts
  • you want to curate posts that you anticipate will have high payouts
  • you don't want to curate posts that already have high payouts and the curation vote will be one of the last ones
  • remember about the 5 minute penalty - it's best to curate around 5 minutes mark or a bit earlier if you think the post will get lots of votes from other users

Please remember that basically this is an experiment and once we have enough data, we can start making this system better and better :) Have fun!
